About Me

Incoming Senior at the University of Michigan studying Computer Science and Business.

Welcome to my personal webpage! I host my CV, publications, and blog posts here.

I hope one day to use my skills as a leader and professional to make our technology safer, through cybersecurity, regulation, inclusive software design, and more. I am actively involved in research on Artificial Intelligence and its affects on Human-Computer Interaction, ith a focus on non-consensual intimate media (NCIM) and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). My lab's work has been presented at major conferences like ACM/CHI 2025.

I am currently an intern at FANUC robotics, the leading and world's largest robotics company, where I am working on software and controls development for industiral and collaborative robots. I am learning and helping impliment important new features for the next generation of FANUC robots, which prioritize worker safety, ease of programming, and predicitve safety protocols.

In my future I hope use my Business skills alongside my Engineering skills to either work and consult groups about sustainable and ethical technology stacks, practices, and policies, or to work in Software Engineering, focusing on security and fullstack development that delivers a product that not only works but meets business goals.

In my free time, I love to run, bike, and hike my beautifiul state of Michigan. I also enjoy working on side projects, such as my arcade cabinet and PC. I have a dog named Teddy who keeps me company.

A Law of One's Own: The Inefficacy of the DMCA for Non-Consensual Intimate Media

Li Qiwei, Shihui Zhang, Samantha Paige Pratt, Andrew Timothy Kasper, Eric Gilbert, Sarita Schoenebeck

ACM/CHI 2025, 2024

Non-consensual intimate media (NCIM) presents internet-scale harm to individuals who are depicted. This paper evaluates the efficacy of the DMCA for NCIM takedown using a dataset of more than 54,000 DMCA reports and over 85 million infringing URLs spanning over a decade. Results show significant delays in content removal from website hosts, highlighting the need for new laws ensuring shorter takedown times.

Reporting Non-Consensual Intimate Media: An Audit Study of Deepfakes

Li Qiwei, Shihui Zhang, Andrew Timothy Kasper, Joshua Ashkinaze, Asia A Eaton, Sarita Schoenebeck, Eric Gilbert

arXiv preprint, 2024

We conducted an audit study of takedown speed of NCIM reported to X (formerly Twitter) comparing two reporting mechanisms. The copyright condition resulted in 100% removal rate within 25 hours, while non-consensual nudity reports resulted in 0% removal rate over three weeks, highlighting the need for targeted legislation.
